Black Hills Drive Project Awarded
The Black Hills Drive extension project in northeast Pierre is moving forward.
On Jan. 4, the Pierre City Commission approved Sharpe Enterprises bid to extend the street by 514 feet, connecting it to Arthur Avenue. Sharpe’s bid of $378,088 was the low bid.
Some additional materials and work will be needed to complete the project; that will bring the full project cost up to $600,000.
“We have already procured some of the materials for the extension, and there’s some work that needs to happen with structures in the development zone,” said Nick Waters, Staff Engineer. “Those costs fall outside of the Sharpe contract.”
Work is expected to begin this spring and take most of the construction season to complete.
Pierre Mayor Steve Harding expects this initiative to bode well for the northeastern portion of Pierre.
“This area of the community is growing,” said Mayor Harding “With the improved vehicle access and developed utilities, it will be safer and ripe for development.”
Once complete, the properties adjacent to Black Hills Drive will be equipped with street, curb and gutter, water, wastewater, storm sewer, and electrical utilities.
