After taking a year off for the pandemic, Pierre’s annual Go Green and Clean spring cleanup campaign is back.
The Go Green and Clean campaign is a civic pride effort designed to get the city spruced up for the summer season. Each year, dozens of volunteers and volunteer groups paint public facilities, clean up flower beds, clear litter and otherwise help make Pierre look its best.
“I’m amazed every year by the generosity of people in Pierre and their willingness to give back to the community,” said Tom Farnsworth, Parks and Recreation Director. “The campaign doesn’t even officially start for a couple of weeks, and I already have about a dozen groups committed to projects!”
Farnsworth serves as the volunteer coordinator for the effort. He matches volunteers with projects that will all be completed between April 24 and May 15.
Projects that have already been claimed by volunteers include sprucing up flower beds at both Steamboat and Griffin Park and litter control along Capital Creek and the railroad tracks.
“We have lots of volunteer opportunities. If you’re interested in participating, give me a call,” said Farnsworth.
Farnsworth went on to say that the city provides trash bags and gloves to participating volunteers. He can be reached at 773.7407.
