Golfers from all over South Dakota will roll into Pierre this weekend for the South Dakota Golf Association’s Husband/Wife State Championship Tournament.
The tournament, hosted by Pierre’s Hillsview Golf Course, starts Friday with practice rounds. The real competition begins Saturday morning when 48 teams, including 14 local teams, compete for the title of State Champion. Tee times start at 8 a.m., and teams will tee off from both tee boxes 1 and 10.
“South Dakota Golf Association events give us an opportunity to showcase our golf course, and invite people from all across South Dakota to enjoy Pierre’s many amenities,” said Carin Hayn, Hillsview Manager. “We’re on the SDGA rotation. So, we have the privilege of hosting one of these big tournaments each year.”
The staff doesn’t take these opportunities for granted. Course Superintendent Bryan Tipton and his team have spent the last few weeks preparing for the event.
“When you’re hosting a state tournament, you really want to make sure that your course is in the best shape possible,” said Tipton. “We have been edging our bunkers, rolling the greens, and making sure everything is properly manicured for the event.”
Throughout the tournament, Hillsview will remain open to golfers who aren’t participating in the tournament. To schedule a tee time, visit cityofpierre.org.
Hillsview Golf Course is a 175 acre 18-hole par 72 championship course. It’s located two miles east of Pierre and hosted more than 31,000 rounds of golf during the 2016 season.
