Pierre’s annual Go Green and Clean Spring cleanup efforts will begin later this month, and the city is looking for volunteers to help.
Between April 22 and the middle of May, community members and civic groups are invited to volunteer their time to clean up public spaces around Pierre. Projects include cleaning up flower beds, litter patrol, and washing down the Trail of Governors statues.
City Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Tipton says that he keeps a list of volunteer opportunities that support the campaign and uses it to match volunteers with a project they are interested in completing.
“We have quite a few groups who claim the same project each year,” said Bryan Tipton, City Parks and Recreation Director. “But we do have a few identified projects that are still up for grabs.”
If you’re interested in helping with the annual campaign, now in its fifteenth year, please contact Tipton at 605.773.7407 or via email at Bryan.Tipton@ci.pierre.sd.us.
The Go Green and Clean campaign is a civic pride effort designed to get the city spruced up for the summer season. Each year, dozens of volunteers and volunteer groups have painted public facilities, cleaned up flower beds, cleared litter, and otherwise helped make Pierre look its best.
In 2024, more than 100 volunteers and volunteer group participated in the effort. Collectively, they cleared four tons of trash and debris from public spaces in Pierre.
