City Approves Remaining 2025 Construction Contracts

With action on Feb. 25, the Pierre City Commission awarded the last two annual contracts for its 2025 street construction projects.

Slurry Seal Contract

The $365,000 slurry seal contract goes to ASTECH Corp., the low bidder. The Minnesota-based company will apply the oil-based treatment to approximately 40 blocks of city street. The seal improves traction control for motorists while preventing moisture from penetrating the street surface.

“Last year was the first year we tried this treatment on our streets here in Pierre,” said Comm. Blake Barringer. “It performed well, and I’m pleased bids came in at a price point that allows us to use this technology again.”

The slurry seal technology is used to preserve streets by extending the life of the driving surface.

Aggregate Base Course

As the low bidder, B & B Equipment received the $109,000 aggregate base course contract.  The gravel provided under the contract is used to rebuild streets and provide material for other city projects.

These two contracts along with the previously approved curb and gutter contract and asphalt contract will result in more than 120 blocks of street improvements during the 2025 construction season.

“People contact me about street conditions more than any other issue,” said Comm. Barringer. “Street maintenance and improvements are a priority for our community members and for this commission.”

If conditions allow construction on city projects is anticipated to start as early as April.
