[ARCHIVED] Rawlins Library: December Programming, Holiday Hours

HOLIDAY HOURS

Rawlins Library will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24 – Thursday, Dec. 26. It will have abbreviated hours on Tuesday, Dec. 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it will be closed on Jan. 1.

HOLIDAY ZOOM

Wondering how to connect with long-distance friends and family this holiday season? Call Rawlins Library at 605.773.7421 to set up a video call. The library will provide a computer, internet connection, and know how to make the call happen.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN CLOSED

Dec. 20 – Jan. 2

Several lending libraries, as well as the courier system will be down during the holidays. Any interlibrary loan requests made between Dec. 20 and Jan. 2 will be processed when the system reopens. 

CHROCHET YOUR OWN CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT

Dec. 2 & 3 at 12 p.m. 

Let an experienced crocheter assist you in creating holiday ornaments. We’ll even provide the materials! Register by calling the library at 605.773.7421.

RIDES FOR READERS (TUESDAYS THROUGH MARCH)

Tuesday, Dec. 3, 10, 17, & 31

Senior citizens living in Pierre and Fort Pierre can get a free ride to the library every Tuesday until March 31. To reserve your ride, call River Cities Transit at 605.945.2360 at least 24 hours in advance.

ADULT BOOK CLUB (TUESDAYS)

Dec. 3, 10, & 17 at 6:00 p.m.

In December, the club will read Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. To reserve a book or join the club, email rawlinslibrary@ci.pierre.sd.us, call 605.773.7421, or sign up in person. Water and coffee are provided. Participants must be 18 or older.

WEDNESDAY MORNING STORYTIME

Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 10:00 a.m. in the SD Room

Join us for stories and sing-along fun.

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE

Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Let Rawlins Library help you get into the holiday spirit with a free hot cocoa bar sponsored by Friends of the Library and live music provided by the Pierre Youth Orchestra.

PAINTING DAY: FLOSSY THE FLAMINGO

Sunday, Dec. 8 from 2 p.m.  – 4 p.m.

Creative lil’ Feller will lead a painting class to help you create your own Christmas Flamingo on canvas. Registration is required. $30 per participant. Space is limited. Reserve your paintbrush by calling 605.773.7421.

MAKERSPACE MONDAY: BEARS & HIBERNATION

Monday, Dec. 9 at 3:30 p.m. in the SD Room

Did you know, in the fall, grizzly bears eat up to 20,000 calories a day to prepare for hibernation? At this Makerspace Monday program, you’ll hear stories and learn fast facts about hibernation and make a cute hibernating bear craft. 


COZY MYSTERY BOOK CLUB

Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 9:30 a.m.

The club is currently reading Poisoned by the Book by Ellen Jacobsen. It is in large print. To reserve a book or join the club, email rawlinslibrary@ci.pierre.sd.us, call 605.773.7421, or sign up in person. Water and coffee are provided. Participants must be 18 or older.

FUN WITH LEGO CLUB

Thursday, Dec. 12 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the SD Room 

Like building with LEGO bricks? Rawlins Library will bring out all the LEGO tubs for this new after-school club, including our new Minecraft LEGO sets. Create a masterpiece using our large collection of specialized bricks, minifigures, and more. New Minecraft LEGO sets purchased with a grant from the Midco Foundation. 

FOR THE THRILL OF IT BOOK CLUB

Sunday, Dec. 15 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The For the Thrill of It book club will read Not a Sound by Heather Gudenkauf. Register for this thriller-genre group by visiting the front desk at the library or by calling 605.773.7421. Must be 18 or older.

 

MAKERSPACE MONDAY: HOLIDAY GARLAND

Monday, Dec. 16 at 3:30 p.m. in the SD Room

What do you get when you combine holiday cheer with yarn, muffin papers, glue, and sparkles? It’s the recipe for a Makerspace Monday program that is perfect for the ho-ho-ho-holidays! We’ll hear festive stories and make a holiday garland for your tree or room.

School programs. Frosting cookies. Shopping lists. Long road trips. December is the month for go-go-go. It’s the perfect time to relax at the library after school and play a few rounds of “Bingo for Books” with friends. Bingo winners select a free book!

HOLIDAY BREAK READING CHALLENGE BEGINS

Friday, Dec. 27, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the SD Room

Rawlins Library is the perfect place to visit during your time off from school. Meet friends at the Holiday Break Free Play program with LEGO bricks, puppets and puppet theater, board games, and more. This is a come and go program.
