City Moves to Protect Electric Equipment
At their April 16 meeting, the Pierre City Commission approved two separate agenda items to protect the city’s electric equipment.
Guardrail Project
The commission approved the request to bid guardrails along East Fourth Street. If bids come back favorably, the guardrails will be placed adjacent to two different electrical transmission poles and in front of an electrical switch.
City Utilities Director Brad Palmer says that electrical infrastructure along Fourth Street has received damage from vehicles.
“This move will help protect the infrastructure, as well as the motoring public,” said Palmer. “These pieces of equipment are large, expensive, and electrified.”
The bid deadline is May 9 with the goal of project completion by the end of September this year.
Cold Storage Project
The commission also approved a $72,000 project to build cold storage at the city’s electric shop.
“Right now, we have conduit that is stored outside,” said Palmer. “The elements degrade the material; the pipe’s shelf life will enhance considerably if we protect it from the weather.”
Construction is expected to begin this month and be complete before the end of summer.
