 Rawlins has you covered for the start of autumn with their Fall Festival, Seed Saving, and historical view of 9 /11 program.

LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP MONTH

Bring in a piece of cancelled mail and a photo ID to get your Rawlins Library card. If you do this during the month of September, you’ll get a swag bag in addition to a library card.

BOOKOPOLY

Through Oct. 31

The Bookopoly game challenges you to read seven books before Oct. 31 by following the themes on the “Bookopoly” game board; it comes complete with Get Out of Jail Free cards. To sign up for the challenge and a chance to win Pierre Pride dollars, visit Rawlins Library – where there’s always “free parking”.

TAKE AND MAKE JELLYFISH

Throughout the month of September pick up your take and make jellyfish kits at Rawlins Library. The kits include supplies and instructions. Available while supplies last.

ADULT BOOK CLUB (Tuesdays)

Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26, 6 p.m.

In September, the club will read The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner. To reserve a book or join the club, email rawlinslibrary@ci.pierre.sd.us, call 605.773.7421, or sign up in person. Water and coffee are provided. Participants must be 18 or older.

Storytime at the Park  

Wednesdays in September, 10 a.m. & 10:30 a.m.

Rawlins is headed outdoors for preschool “Storytime at the Park.” The library will host two sessions every Wednesday in September.

Sept. 20: La Barge Park, Pierre, with guest reader Pierre Mayor Steve Harding

A HISTORICAL VIEW OF 9/11

Monday, Sept. 11, 1 p.m.

Jay D. Vogt, former director of the South Dakota Historical Society, will talk about the state’s efforts to preserve the history of Sept. 11, 2001. The event is free and open to the public. 

Makerspace Monday: Patriot Day

Monday, Sept. 11, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. 

Kids of all ages are invited to participate in “Makerspace Monday” programming where participants will make red, white, and blue crafts and hear Patriot Day stories.

OREGON TRAIL BOARD GAME NIGHT

Thursday, Sept. 14, 6:00 p.m. 

Join the wagon train race to Willamette Valley and seek your fortune in the West playing the Oregon Trail board game. To discover the trails, rivers, forts, and towns that lie along the Trail, register at Rawlins Library.org. The activity is free and open to the public.

STORYTIME AT PIERRE’S FARMER’S MARKET

Saturday, Sept. 16, 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.

Join Rawlins Library staff at the Pierre Farmer’s Market for an outdoor preschool storytime with lively storytelling and sing-along fun. Weather permitting.

Makerspace Monday: AWESOME APPLES

Monday, Sept. 18, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. 

This Makerspace Monday is all about the apples. Kids of all ages are invited to hear stories about the fall fruit and make an apple craft.

Tuesday, Sept. 19, 1 p.m.

Join Pierre Master Gardeners for tips on seed saving, caring for fall gardens, and fall garden bulbs. The program is free and open to the public.

AUTHOR TALK

Wednesday, Sept. 20, 6:30 p.m.

South Dakota author Christine Mager Wevik will discuss her book Someone Knows. The non-fiction piece highlights 52 South Dakota cold cases. The event is free and open to the public.

RAWLINS LIBRARY’S FALL FESTIVAL

Saturday, Sept. 23, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The library is hosting its first-ever Fall Festival. It features crafts for adults and kids, light refreshments, and a wonderful selection of books to help you fall in love with reading. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Makerspace Monday: fall leaves, trees, and seeds

Monday, Sept. 25, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. 

Hear stories and fast facts about fall leaves, trees, and how critters gather food for the winter. Plus, make fall décor with an acorn theme.
