Rawlins Library Serves Nearly 70,000 in 2024
In 2024, 68,198 people visited Rawlins Municipal Library to enjoy its programming, professional development, and reading materials. That’s an average of about 200 people a day.
“Obviously lots of people come here for books and other reading material, but our programming is also a big draw,” said Abby Edwardson, Rawlins Library Director.
Rawlins had more than 9,000 people take part in its programming in 2024.
“We do see a lot of traffic with our adult programs and book clubs,” said Edwardson. “But our children’s programming is our most popular.”
Edwardson pointed to last year’s summer reading program as an example.
“We had more than 920 kids participate. Altogether, they read 9,820 books over the summer. We’re very proud of that number and the kids who helped make the summer program such a success.”
Other impressive stats from Rawlins Library in 2024 include:
- 6,456 total library card holders
- 77,003 physical books
- 45,598 digital books
- 2,234 materials delivered to the homebound
- 7,721 patron computer sessions
In 2024, the South Dakota State Library in conjunction with national public library standards renewed Rawlins Municipal Library Exemplary Level Accreditation. It’s the highest level of recognition a Library can achieve in South Dakota. Exemplary Level Accreditation requires libraries to meet more than 80 criteria in the areas of governance, administration, access, collections and resources, funding, staffing, technology, and public relations. Accreditation is valid for three years; Rawlins Library first received Exemplary Level recognition in 2018.
