The citizens of Pierre rely on their municipal utilities to provide safe and reliable Electric, Street, Water, and Waste Water services.

The Electric Department operates and maintains the electric distribution system which consists of four substations, overhead transmission, and underground distribution. They also maintain hundreds of street lights and the many traffic signals located throughout the community.

The Street Department is responsible for the repair and maintenance of more than 80 miles of City streets. The Street Department does this by providing a range of services including street sweeping, pothole/utility cut repairs, chip sealing, curb & sidewalk painting, signing, snow plowing, and salt/sanding for ice control.

The Water Department is responsible for the drinking water treatment plant, reservoirs, water mains, fire hydrants, and treatment processes that provide fire protection and safe drinking water to our homes and businesses.

The Wastewater Departmentis responsible for maintaining the Sewer Treatment Plant and the collection system consisting of lift stations, hundreds of manholes, and miles of sanitary sewer lines that carry waste to the STP plant.
