The City’s water service is supplied by groundwater that is produced from a series of local wells. The water is treated at the wells and then pumped to reservoirs for distribution throughout the community.
The City of Pierre serves more than 13,640 customers who use an average of 2,627,000 gallons of water each day.
Each year the City is mandated by the federal Environmental Protection Agency and the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources to test its drinking water for contaminants. The 2017 test results show the City’s water is in full compliance with federal and state safety standards.
