ABOUT THE PARK
Mickelson Pond park, located along 4th Street in the northern part of Pierre, is 5 acres and features a kids’ fishing pond, a picnic shelter with grill, and a recreation playtrail / walking path that connects the park to Hilger’s Gulch.
The 1.23 mile hard surface walking trail was constructed in 2009. The trail surface is concrete and has a maximum grade of 7 percent.
The SD GFP has stocked the pond with bass, trout, crappie and blue gill. It is a perfect location for youth fishing. In fact, the City Recreation Dept. features Fishing Fridays at Mickelson Pond as part of its summer recreation programming.
