BankWest and the South Dakota Discovery Center are celebrating 10 years of Pierre’s Go Green and Clean campaign with an additional sustainability initiative. The two groups are giving away reusable Go Green tote bags.

Anne Lewis, Special Projects Director, South Dakota Discovery Center, says that the Go Green bags are a way to cross promote two very important community efforts.

“The Go Green campaign is all about keeping our community beautiful, and sustainability is all about keeping our planet beautiful,” said Lewis. “These two efforts go hand-in-hand.”

Lewis says that she hopes that by giving people sustainable tools, they will be more mindful of keeping Pierre and our whole environment clean.

The tote bags, made from recycled materials, feature the Go Green and BankWest logos and will be given out on a first-come, first-serve at the BankWest downtown location, City Hall and the Discovery Center.  In addition, each of this year’s Go Green volunteer team leaders will receive one of the bags.

“I’m hopeful people will replace plastic grocery bags with these reusable bags,” said Lewis. “It’s one small step we can all take for the health of our community and our environment.”

BankWest, the City of Pierre, and the South Dakota Discovery Center each provided funds to sponsor the Go Green Bag initiative.

“We are privileged to live in such a great area with abundant natural resources,” said BankWest Regional President Terry Fitzke. “BankWest is pleased to partner with the City and the South Dakota Discovery Center to keep our community enjoyable for years to come.”

Now in its tenth year, the Go Green and Clean campaign is a civic pride effort designed to get the City spruced up for the summer season.  This year, about 175 volunteers and 25 volunteer groups supported the campaign by painting public facilities, cleaning up flower beds, clearing litter and otherwise helping make Pierre look its best.
