No Deer Harvest in 2018
PIERRE, S.D. –Pierre’s Deer Management Task Force has determined there’s no need for a deer harvest in city limits this year.
The decision was made after the Task Force members met with staff from the South Dakota Department of Game Fish and Parks and reviewed local deer complaint and deer accident statistics.
According to police records, so far in 2018, there have been eight crashes involving deer and five complaints of deer in town. By comparison, in all of 2017, there were 16 crashes involving deer in Pierre and five complaints of deer in town.
The Task Force did recommend a deer count be completed in 2019.
The Deer Management Task Force is comprised of a City Commissioner and nine citizens appointed by the Pierre City Commission. The Task Force was established in 2007 by the City Commission to establish and administer an urban deer management program.
